Audiobooks are the savior for this sometimes-insomniac, especially when it's the I-can't-turn-off-my brain kind. Audible.com or your local library will have tons of choices.

I recommend picking something you've already read that's not too exciting, so you won't find yourself trying to stay awake to listen. For something new I love "A Short History of Nearly Everything" by Bill Bryson or any 19th century British fiction.

I'm kind of scared what would come out if I chronicled the thoughts second by second. Sometimes I think sentences that don't make sense, like "Steve Martin needs to hide in the grasslands." The scary thing about the thoughts is that there was a long train of thoughts that led me there. I just can't remember them. They disappear on contact.
